The spiritual meaning of birds

Whenever I see a gaggle of magpies, I still count them and recite the old poem . . . . one for sorrow, two for joy, etc and just recently with winter approaching here in our part of the world, the birds have been active once more. Some are flying off north to warmer climes, others preparing for winter here, which led me to write this post. Which birds do you see a lot of in your part of the world or garden?

Blackbird: A message of blessings.
Bluebird: Happiness.
Corncrake: A warning of misfortune to come.
Crane: Independence, cessation of combat .
Crow: Divine law.

Dove: Luck in Love. Love, Peace & Gentleness.
Duck: Good Luck. Wealth.
Eagle: Divine Spirit. To see an eagle is to have divinity touch your life.
Flamingo: Awareness.
Goose: Faithfulness, Communication, Travel
Grouse: Sacred Spiral.
Gull: Adaptability.
Hawk: Messenger. If you see a hawk, look around, there is a message for you in what is also going on around you.
Hen: Domesticity. Hens also predict the weather; if they gather on a mound and preen their feathers, rain is on the way. Also if it starts to rain watch your hens if the huddle under shelter, the rain will be of short duration, if they go out into it, the rain will last most of the day.
Heron, blue: Rhythm and balance
Hummingbird: Joy, Miricals

Rook: Good Luck.
Rooster: Pride. Braggart
Stork: Its German name adebar means "luck bringer", and a stock perching on your house indicates very good fortune.
Sparrow: Good luck for lovers.
Swallow: Good fortune.
Swan: Grace.
Turkey: Give away. Amerinds see turkey as a sign of generosity.
Vulture: Poverty, Serious disruption in your life.

Emptying the clutter

After the purge comes more(stuff). So, another purge, and a scratch of the head wondering just WHERE does that stuff come from? Repeat process annually or more often.

I've done this repetative thing for a long time now and its getting tiring. I love to live with less... much less, its neat, its tidy its easy to take of and less housework all around, so why does it slowly, ever so slowly creep back to the clutter?

Maybe this is the question I need to ask myself just before purchasing another 'must have' item.

At the same time, I am making progress with the pattern of it all. There are increasing amounts of emptier spaces in the cupboards, in the rooms where we live. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to live in an empty room, or a house devoid of stuff. I think its in the strive for that balance. Now THAT"S the hard part!

I did so enjoy reading about 'Innermost House" a new link on someones blog (Beauty that moves blog - on my sidebar). It certainly provoked some thoughts and discussion chez our house today. What do you think of Innermost house? Could you live that kind of lifestyle?

I am . . . . .

What type of woman are you? And, which one would you like to be?

Fairy Nice!

Now for something completely different . . . .

While gathering up some craft things to make a few fairy jars, I hit on the idea to use the tiny fairy I bought for putting inside the jars, in some photos in the garden using a natural setting and see what that looked like.

I had to get down on and almost lie face down in the garden to take the close up shots, not sure what the neighbours must have thought!

I thought the photos came out pretty ok.

Here she is hiding out in the camelia garden.

I suppose there would be hundreds of different ideas on where a 'fairy' like this one could be photographed in a garden setting?

sitting on some rocks, and just thinking or dreaming?

Next time I'll show you the fairy jars and how they came out.

perhaps next time I'll take some photos with the fairy at different times of the year.

Thinking ahead

Yes, the shops are filling up fast with reminders that Valentines Day is just around the corner. I don't really like all the shop bought commercial stuff and prefer made at home, homemade with love items, for my own true love.

With the changing seasons I like to fill my house with seasonal pleasures, and whatever special day is coming up I love to make a special display of it. Valentines day requires some deep creative thought otherswise it defaults easily into tacky, or boring. I do like to bake my partner something special too, nothing nicer than to fill the kitchen with sweet scents creating and baking with love.

So, as thoughts and ideas pop up on various blogs I'll post them here, more to remind myself than anything else, and see what takes my fancy for this years V- day.

Anyone else out there brimming with good (home-made) Valentines day ideas?

Loved this so much had to share

Authentic Self

I express all that I am, without apology.
I am open and flexible with my opinions, philosophies, and beliefs.
I relish the perfection of my imperfection.
I do not compromise my Self.
I live no one's life but my own.
I do not ignore my passions or what brings me joy.
I am mindful but not obsessive as a parent.
I allow myself a full voice (I weep, grieve, shout, laugh, as I need to).
I recognise and honour every aspect of myself (woman, creatrix, writer, mother, soul...)
I make challenging decisions from love, instead of guilt, obligation, or martyrdom.
I respect everyone, I help many, I nurture some, I please myself.
I don't demand that I reach an ideal.
I let go what no longer works for me or adds to my soul.
I recognise that authenticity is everyone's right - what is right for me or my child is not the same for everyone.

I found this on a blog somewhere,( loved it!!) and am now printing it and pinning it to the fridge, where I can see and read it everyday.

Totem animals - Woodpecker

My totem animal is the Woodpecker and this a drawing I did to honor my totem animal/bird!

The Woodpecker is connected to Native American drumming, they also dig into trees to find bugs and grubs to eat which denote digging into something, the art of discrimination and increased analysis.

It also has a peculiar way of flying with a rhythm and manner unique to itself. all this serves to say, be conscious of flying to your own rhythm, and don't be afraid to dig in to make the best choice for what is right for you, sometimes it also means you need to drum up a little change and get some renewed rhythm!

Knowledge of personal truth. Inner strength. Mentally strong.
